How much does it cost to play for HSA?
Spring ball costs $130 (Tball is only $75), and each player is expected to sell 20 raffle tickets at $5 a piece ($100 total). HSA does offer cheaper prices for early registration, and there is a sibling discount. HSA also offers payment plans for those who may need it.
Fall ball is $75. No raffle tickets are required during the fall.
What should I expect from tryouts?
Tryouts usually take approximately 5 minutes per player and it is first come, first go. Players need to bring a bat, helmet, glove, and cleats to tryouts. If you do not have a bat, one may be borrowed. During tryouts, players will be asked to participate in several drills, including hitting multiple balls, fielding pop-ups and ground balls, throwing the ball across the infield (typically from shortstop to 1st base), and catching a ball (typically at 1st base from a throw from the shortstop). All tryouts vary per age division. Tball players do not try out.
I can't make tryouts. Can my kid still play?
Absolutely! We highly encourage everyone to tryout so that coaches can gauge the talent of all players to help make all teams as equal as possible for a more level playing field during the season. However, if you cannot make tryouts, your kid will be drawn randomly from a hat to determine which coach/team they will play for.
Are there requirement for basebal/softballl gear?
Glove sizes vary per age group. Bats must be USA approved. Go to www.usabat.com before purchasing a bat. USSSA bats will not be allowed under any circumstances. Helmets must have a face shield or chin guard. All softball players must wear fielder’s masks.
Jerseys will be provided for all players by HSA. Boys will be given hats, and girls will be given socks. Parents will be responsible for pants, belts and cleats.
Can my kid play up a division?
HSA does not recommend players playing up in divisions. If you are wanting your kid to play up, he/she must attend try-outs for the division they are wanting to play for. They must be drafted in either the 1st or 2nd round by a coach that is NOT a family member. If they are not drafted by the 2nd round, your kid must play in their correct age division. No longer can family members coach in a higher age division to guarantee their kid play up.
I need to play with another player due to ride share. Can that be arranged?
The only roster exceptions HSA makes is for siblings who live in the same household. HSA will not allow roster exceptions for friends, ride shares, or for any other reason. HSA will let the coach who drafts one kid know about the request, but it is ultimately up to the coach’s disgression.
How many practices can I expect per week?
HSA attempts to schedule 1-2 practices per week, but practices vary by coach and age group.
